With the arrival of a new era of energy conservation in China, a new term has begun to appear frequently in people's conversations — “frequency conversion” (variable frequency technology). Starting from what we are familiar with — variable frequency air conditioners and refrigerators in household appliances — the general public usually only knows that energy saving is their representative feature. From this, we can indirectly understand that variable frequency technology is a technique capable of achieving energy-saving effects.

The main application area of VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) is within the power industry, where they have a broad and widespread market. In the thermal power sector, for example, VFDs are applied to coal feeders, pulverized coal feeders, induced draft fans, primary air fans, secondary air fans, and more, indicating vast market potential. Among existing industrial control technologies, variable frequency speed control technology stands out significantly in terms of energy savings, with energy savings typically ranging from 30% to 50%, and a cost recovery period of six months to three years.

Currently, variable frequency technology in the power industry is mainly used to adjust coal, powder, and water flow rates to adapt to load changes, ultimately achieving both energy savings and improved control performance. It plays a crucial role in reducing energy consumption, lowering emissions, and ensuring safe and stable operation in thermal power plants. The applications of low-voltage VFDs in the power industry mainly include conveying devices such as coal feeders and pulverized coal feeders, fan equipment like supply fans and induced draft fans, as well as various types of pumps — all of which fall into the mid-range market segment for current variable frequency technology applications. In 2011, the power industry, especially thermal power enterprises, faced significant losses and drew widespread attention. Although adjustments to electricity pricing were introduced at year-end, creating a bearish market situation, the various factors hindering their market performance could not be resolved by a simple price adjustment policy. In recent years, whether traditional thermal power companies or renewable energy generation enterprises favored by government policies, power firms have often been enveloped in an optimistic atmosphere. Ultimately, however, many weak links still exist throughout the industrial chain, unchanged: small steps in energy structure adjustment and factor price reforms. Adjustments in the power industry structure are primarily reflected in: - Increasing the proportion of renewable energy generation capacity in total installed capacity; - Raising the percentage of high-efficiency renewable energy generating units among all units; - Accelerating the application of clean and new energy generation technologies; - Strengthening grid construction to promote coordinated development across all levels of the power grid and enhancing inter-regional resource allocation capabilities. At present, the purpose of implementing low-voltage VFD retrofits in the power industry is to improve motor operating performance, which belongs to a relatively basic level of demand. Therefore, the growth rate has been relatively stable, maintaining a growth rate of 15%-20% in recent years. Low-voltage VFDs account for a high proportion of the overall cost in complete sets of equipment but have lower performance requirements. As a result, upstream companies focus more on practical effectiveness, allowing foreign brands to hold over 70% of the market share. Overall, the growth of low-voltage VFDs comes from extensions into servo systems and complete sets of industrial control equipment. Changsha Sunye Electric Co., Ltd.
