What are the specific functions of a frequency converter control cabinet?
VFD control cabinets are primarily used to control and regulate the speed of three-phase AC induction motors. With their stable performance, rich combination of functions, high-performance vector control technology, high torque output at low speeds, excellent dynamic characteristics, and strong overload capacity, VFD control cabinets occupy an important position in the inverter market. These cabinets are widely applicable in industrial and agricultural production, as well as in automatic control systems for various types of construction constant-pressure water supply systems, air compressors, fans and pumps, central air conditioning systems, port machinery, machine tools, boilers, paper-making machinery, food-processing machinery, and more. They offer benefits such as energy savings, reduced operating costs, and improved accuracy in pressure control.
1. Power switching and protection: A low-voltage molded-case circuit breaker is installed in the VFD cabinet and connected to the three-phase power supply. It not only connects and disconnects the circuit but also protects against short circuits and overloads in the circuit and VFD. The circuit can be disconnected during maintenance.
2. Start/stop control: The VFD cabinet panel includes frequency conversion start and stop buttons, enabling convenient operation of the VFD equipment directly on-site.
3. Frequency (speed) adjustment: A frequency adjustment potentiometer is provided on the VFD cabinet panel, allowing easy manual tuning of the VFD’s output frequency to control motor speed.
4. Meter display: Ammeters, voltmeters, frequency meters, and various indicator lights—such as power indicators, alarm indicators, running indicators, and DC indicators—are mounted on the panel to monitor input voltage, output current, output frequency, and overall operational status.
5. Standby DC switching: Users may choose a VFD cabinet with standby DC switching functionality. In case of VFD failure, the motor can be automatically switched to a direct power supply through the control circuit (manual or automatic selection available; for starters above 15kW, a soft starter is recommended).
6. Multiple control functions: Depending on system requirements, various control buttons and indicator lights can be installed on the VFD cabinet panel, including forward/reverse, motor acceleration/deceleration, jog forward/reverse, manual/auto, VFD/DC switching, PLC control, touch screen displays, etc.
7. Optional accessories: Based on application needs, components such as AC input reactors, output reactors, DC link reactors, EMI filters, braking units, braking resistors, contactors, miniature relays, thermal relays, programmable logic controllers (PLC), programmable operator terminals (GOT), wattmeters, cooling fans, and more can be installed inside the VFD cabinet.
8. Environmental and safety protection: Installing the VFD inside a cabinet helps reduce environmental pollution and lower the risk of electric shock, offering good isolation protection.
9. Neat and aesthetic design: By installing the VFD in a cabinet that matches standard low-voltage switchgear in size and color, the integration of power distribution and control equipment is maintained, resulting in a neat and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
