Because the Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) has many parameters that need to be set before use, and each parameter has a certain range of selection, improper settings often cause the equipment to fail to operate normally during use. Therefore, it is necessary to correct these related parameters.
2. Minimum Operating Frequency: This refers to the minimum motor speed. When operating at low speeds, the motor’s heat dissipation performance deteriorates significantly. Prolonged low-speed operation may result in motor burnout. Additionally, current increases in the cable, which can also lead to overheating.
3. Maximum Operating Frequency: Typically, the maximum frequency is 60Hz; some VFDs even reach up to 400Hz. High-frequency operation causes the motor to run at high speed, which ordinary motor bearings cannot sustain for long periods. The question of whether the motor rotor can withstand such centrifugal force must also be considered.
4. Carrier Frequency: The higher the carrier frequency, the greater the harmonic components. These harmonics, together with cable length and motor heating, are major factors contributing to system overheating.
5. Motor Parameters: Set parameters such as motor power, current, voltage, speed, and maximum frequency directly from the motor nameplate.
6. Skip Frequency: Resonance may occur at certain frequency points, especially when the entire system is relatively tall. When controlling compressors, avoid compressor surge points. Due to the large number of function parameters, users may have dozens or even hundreds of options. In practical applications, however, not all parameters require individual setting and tuning. Most can be left at factory default values.
Acceleration and Deceleration Time Settings:
The acceleration time refers to the time required for the output frequency to rise from 0 to the maximum frequency, while the deceleration time is the time needed for the frequency to drop from maximum back to 0. These times are generally determined by the rising and falling edges of the frequency setting signal.
When accelerating the motor, the rate of frequency increase should be limited to prevent overcurrent. During deceleration, the rate of decrease must be controlled to prevent overvoltage. Acceleration time should be set so that the acceleration current remains below the overcurrent threshold, avoiding triggering an overcurrent alarm.
The key point in setting the deceleration time is to prevent overvoltage in the smoothing circuit due to regenerative energy, which could cause the VFD to trip. While acceleration and deceleration times can be calculated based on load characteristics, in practice they are often initially set to longer durations based on experience. By starting and stopping the motor, check for any overcurrent or overvoltage alarms. Then gradually reduce the set times until no alarms occur.
