An inverter is an electrical control device that applies frequency conversion and microelectronic technologies to control AC motors by changing the frequency of the motor's power supply. The main components of an inverter include a rectifier (AC to DC), filter, inverter (DC to AC), braking unit, driving unit, detection unit, and a microprocessor unit. The inverter adjusts the output voltage and frequency through internal IGBT switching, providing the motor with the required power supply voltage according to its actual needs, thereby achieving energy saving and speed control.

Due to long-term high-frequency operation, factory inverters must be inspected, maintained, and serviced regularly. Below we briefly discuss inspection content and maintenance methods:

Daily Inspection of Inverters

Listening, visual observation, touch, and smell are commonly used during inspections. General inspection items include:

(1)Check whether the ambient temperature and humidity meet the requirements.

(2)Check whether the inverter’s air inlet and outlet are dusty or blocked.

(3)Check whether the noise, vibration, and odor of the inverter are within normal range.

(4)Check whether the operating parameters and panel display are normal.

Maintenance and Care of Low-Voltage Small Inverters

Low-voltage small inverters refer to low-power inverters operating on a 380V (220V) low-voltage grid. They are usually wall-mounted vertically inside control cabinets. Their regular maintenance includes: :

(1)Regular dust removal inspection

(2)Regular inspection of main circuit parameters, such as checking whether the main and control circuit voltages are normal.

(3)Regular inspection of peripheral circuits and equipment, such as checking whether the braking resistor and contactor are functioning normally, and whether wire connections are loose.

(4)Judge the lifespan of components based on maintenance information, such as electrolytic capacitors and cooling fans. Replace them promptly when their service life is exceeded.

Periodic Maintenance and Care of High-Voltage Cabinet Inverters

High-voltage inverters refer to inverters operating at voltages above 6kV. These are generally cabinet-type units. In addition to following the same maintenance procedures as low-voltage inverters, the following additional maintenance items should also be included:

(1)Regular maintenance of busbars: check for deformation, loosening, or insulation damage.

(2)Regular inspection of the rectifier and inverter sections of the main circuit, such as using a multimeter to measure power semiconductor devices periodically.

(3)Inspection of terminal blocks: check whether terminals are aged, loose, or if wire insulation is damaged.

(4)If possible, measure the filtered DC waveform, inverter output waveform, and harmonic components of the input power supply.
